The Melanoma Foundation of New England (MFNE) was founded in 1999 by Mel and Marilyn Rubin in memory of their son Mark who lost his battle with the melanoma.
MFNE is a non-profit organization that works to reduce the incidence of melanoma. As a regional organization with a national reach, MFNE is dedicated to skin cancer awareness and early detection, MFNE provides a variety of free education programs targeting the prevention of skin cancer for children, teens and adults. MFNE’s Your Skin Is In program has been recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology with a Gold Triangle Award. MFNE has won two Telly Awards for it’s Public Service Announcement, The Annoying Mole, and has been featured in national news for its Practice Safe Skin sunscreen dispenser program. Other signature national programing includes The Skinny On Skin, in which beauty industry professionals may get certified to provide life-saving information to their clients.
MFNE also assists patients and their caregivers struggling with melanoma by offering support groups, educational programs, and Billy’s Buddies, a one-on-one patient advocacy and support program. These programs are all free.
A Medical Advisory Board and Board of Directors comprised of business people, health care professionals, and leading melanoma specialists provide guidance to MFNE. Our fundraising events provide funding for education and support programs aimed at prevention, early detection and support.
The Melanoma Foundation of New England is a non-profit 501( c )( 3) organization.
